STATEMENT (ENG) 

Alejandro Sepúlveda's photography focuses on architecture, the city, the territory, and its inhabitants; specifically, "the photographic character of the city," an idea that has been developing and evolving over time. His captures crystallize the constant dialogue between its inhabitants and their contemporary built environment... and often the lack of communication between them. Understanding architecture as the result of this dialectic.

As an observer, he positions himself as an anonymous figure within the crowd, acknowledging his own futility in the face of urban dynamics, yet maintaining his perspective and personal inquiries. He moves away from mere documentation of moments framed within a space.

Ultimately, his work is understood as a testimony to the passage of time, a continuous act of feeding his archive, a way of adding narratives to those already existing within the city.

BIO (ENG)

Urban Photographer, Architect from the University of Chile, and Master of Architecture from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Passionate about combining these disciplines as a way to reveal the world, interrogate oneself, and generate actions that provide solutions in a balance between technique and art. These reasons led him to found Analog Group (www.grupoanalogo.com). In terms of photography, he is particularly interested in researching, visualizing, and revealing the relationships between inhabitants, territory, city, and architecture. He often asserts that photography was his first profession, as he walked through his environment with his camera since childhood (a gift from my parents) and possessed a great curiosity, characteristics that accompany him to this day.

In 2015, he presented the exhibition "Walking through the history that never was" (photographic tour of the former Ochagavía Hospital) at the photographic gallery of the Biblioteca de Santiago.

In 2016, he organized the roundtable discussions "Limitations as a cause of inspiration in photography," "August Sander: Face of Our Time," and "L’Aventure Moderne" by Henri Cartier-Bresson at the Foto-cine Club de Chile. That same year, he studied black and white photography at the workshop of renowned photographers Luis Poirot and Fernanda Larraín.

During the period 2019-2020, he resided in the city of Valdivia, where he taught in the Alta-UACH Valdivia program at the Universidad Austral de Chile, with the courses: "The Photographic Character of the City - Summer 2020" and "The Photographic Character of the City: The Indiscreet Window - Autumn Semester 2020."

Currently, he resides in the city of Santiago, Chile, where, at Analog Group, he develops projects in both Photography and Architecture.

STATEMENT (SPA) 

La fotografía de Alejandro Sepúlveda, tiene como enfoque la arquitectura, la ciudad, el territorio y sus habitantes; en específico “el carácter fotográfico de la ciudad”, (idea que ha ido desarrollando y evolucionando en el tiempo). Cristaliza en sus capturas, el constante dialogo entre sus habitantes y su entorno construido contemporáneo… y muchas veces la incomunicación entre ellos.  Entendiendo la arquitectura como resultado de esa dialéctica.

 

Como observador, se sitúa como un personaje anónimo dentro de la masa, asumiendo su propia futilidad frente a la dinámica urbana, eso sí, sin abandonar su punto de vista y cuestionamientos personales. Alejándose del mero registro de momentos enmarcados en un espacio.

 

Su obra, se entiende finalmente como un testimonio frente al paso del tiempo, un continuo acto de alimentar su archivo, una forma de sumar de sumar relatos a los ya existentes de la ciudad.

 

BIO (SPA)

Fotógrafo Urbano, Arquitecto de la Universidad de Chile y Magíster en Arquitectura de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Apasionado en combinar dichas diciplinas, por ser una forma de revelar el mundo, interrogarse a uno mismo y de generar acciones que den soluciones en un equilibrio entre la técnica y el arte. Motivos que le llevaron a fundar Grupo Análogo (www.grupoanalogo.com). En relación a la fotografía, es de su especial interés investigar, visualizar y revelar las relaciones entre habitantes, territorio, ciudad y arquitectura. Suele afirmar que la fotografía fue su primera profesión, ya que desde niño caminaba por su entorno con su cámara fotográfica (obsequio de mis padres) y el de poseer una gran curiosidad, características que lo acompañan hasta el día de hoy.

En el año 2015 presenta la exposición Caminando por la historia que no fue (recorrido fotográfico por el ex Hospital Ochagavía), en la galería fotográfica de la Biblioteca de Santiago.

En el año 2016, organize las mesas redondas Las limitaciones como causa de la inspiración en la fotografía, August Sander Face of Our Time y L’Aventure Moderne de Henri Cartier-Bresson en el Foto-cine Club de Chile. El mismo año, estudia fotografía en blanco y negro en el Taller de los reconocidos fotógrafos Luis Poirot y Fernanda Larraín.

Durante el periodo 2019-2020 residió en la ciudad de Valdivia, donde realizó docencia en el programa Alta-UACH Valdivia de la Universidad Austral de Chile, con los cursos: El carácter Fotográfico de la ciudad Verano 2020 y El carácter Fotográfico de la Ciudad: La ventana indiscreta_ Semestre Otoño 2020.

Actualmente, Reside en la Ciudad de Santiago (Chile), lugar donde en Grupo Análogo, desarrolla proyectos tanto de Fotografía como Arquitectura.
